What is already known about the new 2019-nCoV virus? It is very similar to other coronaviruses and is especially close to SARS - the very one that was responsible for SARS in China. It is also similar to MERS, a virus that causes Middle Eastern respiratory syndrome.

“The peculiarity of 2019-nCoV is that it has a genome in the form of ribonucleic acid (RNA), one of the three main macromolecules that are found in the cells of all living organisms,” Pavel Volchkov, head of the genomic engineering laboratory of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, told RG . - In addition, this virus is the record holder in size. A large genome makes it possible to "carry" not only the necessary genes, but also auxiliary ones. This allows the virus to take control of the host cell: it forces it to "work" on its, the virus's needs. Moreover, it does not allow the cell to sound an alarm in time to “turn on” the immune system.
According to Pavel Yurievich, coronavirus can rapidly adapt to the human body, and evade the immune response.
“This allows you to very quickly start the synthesis of the necessary proteins in the required volume, unlike DNA viruses,” the scientist says.
